Hello from Kenya!

We arrived just over a week ago. Things are peaceful thankfully after the recent troubles. The children are on school holiday this week so we've made the most of spending time with them. Paul especially was pleased to see them and was surprised how much they've grown this past year. As I was here in May so I'm used to some towering over me!

We have two German volunteers staying with the children at Casuarina House at the moment who've been teaching them to play the guitar. Dennis in particular has taken to it and delighted us with a song they taught him. I'm told he was practicing the same chords over and over relentlessly till he got it right, such was his determination. The other children had their hands over their ears for much of the time exasperated! We were touched as he sang and diligently changed between the 4 chords....such talent emerging from a 9 year old. As you can see from the picture the guitar is almost as big as Dennis! The others are in awe of him now.We are organizing a holiday club for the village children before they go back to school culminating in a talent show and I think he will be the one to beat!

Whilst staying we like to treat the children to a day out. This time we arranged an educational (and fun!) visit to the Crocodile Farm. We hired the bus that has recently been purchased by the School, took a packed lunch and set off in the heat. The children were mesmerized by the feeding frenzie of the crocodiles. Mary (below left) was bold enough to hold a baby croc. We also had a guided tour around the aquarium, learnt about different vegetation plus breeds of deadly spiders and snakes. This is a very brave Dickson (below right) holding a (tame) python....glad I was the one taking the picture!

The day ended with a pony ride which was a first for all. You can see more pictures of the children's day out on our Charity face book page: https://www.facebook.com/TheSureFoundation

Our Feeding Program is going on well. These are a few of the children leaving with their maize and full tummy's. The good news is we finally have enough funds to give out bags of maize to more orphans. We will be increasing as from September so all 500 will now receive a bag to take back to their guardians for cooking instead of one between siblings. We have been praying to increase for some time as the larger families run out before the end of the week. Now this will ensure at least one meal a day for each child. Regular gifts, generous donations plus fund-raising has allowed this to happen so thank for your support!

Saturday 29th Nov is our Christmas Charity Ball which is always a lovely evening with friends enjoying good food and dancing.Tickets are now on sale from Pat Rose, email:p.rose3604@gmail.com. Please consider hosting a table of 10, it's an opportunity to help raise funds to sustain what we're doing for the children.

Lastly we have some places left on our "Best of Both Worlds" trip departing 1st October if you fancy a last minute break and want to meet our children. It's a chance to stay in Utange for a week at the Action Centre and volunteer at Casuarina, School and Feeding Program, then enjoy a 3 day Safari, ending up at the beautiful Severin Sea Lodge Hotel on the edge of the Indian Ocean for 6 nights. Please contact me for costs and itinerary if you're interested in joining us.
